Mahabaleshwar – The land of Strawberries

IMG_3737We (A group of friends in my office, along with kids and moms) had been to Mahabaleshwar during May 2012.

A brief intro into this trip. It all started some 4 years back, where we ladies wanted to go on a trip along with our kids, leaving men behind. Our first “magalir mattum” trip was to Yelagiri , way back in 2008.  Then, in the following years, mostly during the summer holidays (in the month of april / may), we had been to Kodaikanal, Thekkady and Poovar. Unfortunately, i was not able to accompany them in all these 4 trips. But, somehow managed to join this year.

Our friend V, whose post i have linked in the previous trips, couldn’t join us this time.  It happens. Every year someone or other had some personal reasons to miss the trip halfheartedly. So, this time we were totally 9 adults and 4 kids. This is the first trip, i had taken all 3 kids along. Yes, Pozhil was added in the last-minute. This time, we wanted to save the travel time and took flight up / down.

You know something, not only for my 3 kids, including me, for all 4 of us, this is out first air travel. I know people will laugh at me. YES. I didn’t get a chance to board a flight for all of these 35 years.

We started on a Friday early morning from Chennai and reached Pune in less than 2 hours time. There we had arranged for a 12 seater maxi cab which was hired for the full trip, from pick up at airport to drop us at the same place 4 days later. We spent 3 days in Mahabaleshwar and last day in Pune (shopping and dining) and the return journey was also late in the night. Since both air travel was in odd hours, I somehow managed to put pozhil to sleep and he didn’t have / make much trouble during the travel.

I am not getting into the details of the trip. That will need one post per day of our trip. I am just summarizing it here. In Mahabaleshwar, we had a great time, visiting different view points (to name a few – elephant head point, needle hole point, echo point, kates point, arthur seat point and much more points – i remember only these names), sunrise / sunset views, Shivaji fort, Mahabaleshwar temples, Venna lake boating, horse riding, shopping, etc., The most memorable part of the trip is the yummy strawberries and mulberries that we ate there (in almost all the places we visited, we ate them). And the most memorable place is “Mapro garden” where we ate “fresh cream ice-cream with fresh strawberries”.  We would like to visit Mahabaleshwar again just for those yummy fresh creamy ice-cream with fresh strawberries. What say girls?
